August 15, 2012 – Luke 11:27-28 – True Blessedness

Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary
While he was saying this, a woman in the crowd raised her voice and said to him, “Blessed is the womb that bore you and the breast that nursed you!” But he said, “Blessed rather are those who heard the word of God and obey it!”

Today we celebrate the feast of Our Lady of Assumption into Heaven. In his homily, Father Michael Coutts said that as the Olympics and advertisements are over, the athletes with their moms and dads deserve victory. We join their victory as we celebrate and share the glory of Mary’s earthly cause to be the Mother of God. In the first reading of Chronicles, it mentioned about sacred space. The Hindu, Muslim, Jewish, Christians, Catholics and other sects have sacred space, the church, which is a place of great reverence and sign of hope. Virgin Mary has  sacred space with different names like gates of heaven, ark of the covenant, tower of David, tower of ivory, and house of gold. God chose a woman, Blessed Mary, for her obedience. She declared herself as the handmaid of the Lord. As the beloved Mother of Jesus, she heard the word of God and kept it. So let us pray to her: “Mary conceived without sin, Mary assumed into heaven, pray for us.”
