ST. LUCY AND ST. ANTHONY

St, Lucy
PRAYER IN HONOR OF ST. LUCY,
Patron of Good Eyesight

O God, our Creator and Redeemer, mercifully hear our prayers, and as we venerate your servant, St. Lucy, for the light of faith you bestowed upon her, increase and preserve this same light also in our souls, that we may be able to avoid even, to do good, and abhor nothing so much as the blindness and the darkness of evil and of sin.

Relying on your goodness, o God, we humbly ask you by intercession of your servant’s, Lucy, to give perfect vision onto our eyes, that they may serve for your greater honor and glory, for our salvation and that of others, and that we may come to the enjoyment of the unfailing light of the Lamb of God in paradise.

St. Lucy, virgin and martyr, hear our prayers and obtain our petitions.

August 25, 2012 – Matthew 23:1-12 – Jesus Denounces Scribes and Pharisees

Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples. The scribes and the Pharisees sit on Moses’ seat; therefore, do whatever they teach you and follow it; but do not do as they do, for they do not practice what they teach. They tie up heavy burdens, hard to beat, and lay them on the shoulders of others, but they themselves are unwilling to lift a finger to move them… They love to have the place of honor at banquets and the best seats in the synagogues, and to be greeted with respect in the market places, and to have people call them rabbi. But you are not to be called rabbi, for you have one teacher and you are all students. And call no one your father on earth for you have one Father- the one in heaven. Nor are you to be called instructors, for you have one instructor the messiah… .The greatest among you will be your servant. All who exalt themselves will be humbled, and all who humble themselves will be exalted.

St. Louis of France
Father Michael Coutts announced that it is the feast day of St. Louis of France and St. Joseph Calaranz. St. Louis of France practiced good balance of caring of his children and ruling the church. There was a healthy tension between family life and his relationship with God so the glory of God shone in his kingdom. On the other hand, St. Joseph Calaranz saw there was lot of morale depravity among the poor  who have no ambition to improve themselves. So St. Joseph started a group of people to educate them in order to form their character until he died in 1956. Let us imitate St. Louis and St. Joseph in the way they live their lives.
